For almost forty years I’ve been applying paint to canvas as a freelance scenic artist creating large scale works for West End theatre and commercial projects whilst also developing my own artwork exploring light on moving water. Also working as a sea kayak guide and coach I’ve explored some inspirational locations with sketch book and camera at the ready. These paintings are the beginnings of the culmination of my artistic journey to capture in paint, the energy, spirit and feeling of being on the water and the amazing sites I’ve seen on my sea kayaking adventures.
Painting collections
The dynamism of light on water has always fascinated me and kayaking puts me directly in contact with its movement, flow and moods. These three waterscapes offer me endless artistic and paddling challenges: the vast ever-changing sea with powerful tides, the waters of the river finding it’s path down drops, round rocks and into eddies and the magnetism and majesty of ice.

Working as a freelance artist almost every painting project I undertake is a commission, whether it be large scale 15m x 9m theatre backdrop or a 70cm x 50cm painting.
Theatre clients such as Cameron Mackintosh Productions or Disney will provide a highly detailed piece of artwork to reproduce to exact specification, whilst others only give a rough brief and I have full artistic freedom. All these projects have the same need to understand the brief, capture the essence of the style being created and the reason for the artwork with empathy and conscientiousness. Over the years I have worked in every style possible whilst developing my own artistic language for original works.
